When you step into FPV, one of the first questions is: “Should I go analog or digital?”
Analog — the old-school standard.
Pros:
- Ultra-low latency, the feed feels instant.
- Better penetration, works through trees and buildings.
- Much cheaper gear, both VTX and goggles.
Cons:
- Image quality looks like VHS: noisy, washed-out colors.
- Details easily get lost.
Digital (DJI, Walksnail, HDZero) — the modern approach.
Pros:
- Crisp HD feed — you can spot branches and wires clearly.
- Easier for beginners because the image is clear and stable.
Cons:
- Two to three times more expensive.
- If the signal drops, the picture may freeze.
- Slightly more latency compared to analog.
Conclusion
Go analog if you want affordable and “classic” FPV. Go digital if you value clarity and comfort. Many pilots start with analog and later upgrade to HD systems.
