Sometimes a client writes: “Guys, I want a 6S long range/freestyle drone that can fly far, but can also freestyle easily and capture cinematic footage.” And you realize this is no simple task. It is not enough to just put a frame and motors together—you need excellent flight performance and a look that turns heads.
We recently received exactly this kind of order, and I decided to tell you how it all came together.
Stage one: selecting the components
The first thing we do is carefully select the setup so there are no “that is not what we needed” moments later. In FPV, it is very easy to end up with either a brick that barely stays in the air or a fast but unstable drone.
For this project, we selected:
Frame — TJRC J5 V2 Wide DC 5" in a blue-and-pink colorway. Not just carbon, but a real beauty with a modern design.
Motors — RCINPOWER Wasp Major V2 Champion Edition 22.6-6.6 at 2160KV. On 6S, they provide an excellent balance of thrust and efficiency while remaining relatively light at 29.5 grams.
Stack — SpeedyBee F405 V4 BLS 55A 30x30. A reliable brain paired with powerful ESCs.
Video system — DJI O4 Air Unit Pro. For cinematic filming, it is one of the best options available today.
